Totally disagree with the grade on this one. This was great. I loved the parallel between the kids' plot and the parents' plot - this show really recognizes that Bob and Linda are really just grown-up versions of their kids. I half-expected them to all be in jail together by the end of the episode.

So they kind of, sort of addressed the NYPD's real-life corruption. Honestly, I liked imaging this was a fantasy world where cops are actually respectable and not racist and awful.

That's pretty rare though. And the Betty White episode was super hyped, they brought back past cast members and everything, which I'm guessing added to the inspiration.

I didn't think Meyers was amazing, but he at least was pretty good at joke delivery and he was really good at bantering with the correspondents.

I'm not saying they bantered every week, but when they did banter it didn't feel like they were Trying To Banter like it does whenever Che and Jost try it. I mean, compare those "Really?! with Seth and Amy" segments to anything Jost and Che have tried.

I'd say it's somewhere in the middle. I thought this episode was an improvement on the premiere but "brilliant" and "near-perfect" it wasn't.

I actually think Che-Cecily could be a good pairing. Cecily was starting to find her groove by the end of her year on Update, and I think Che could be good with someone to bounce off of. Jost may be a good writer, but he just doesn't have the performing chops necessary as an Update anchor. I mean, compare Jost to even

There are plenty of weak Key and Peele sketches.

I think there are some crazies who really think we need to defend ourselves against the government, but I genuinely believe a lot of people just love and care about their guns more than they care about human safety.

I'm guessing it's a bit from her special airing next week. The "point" might have been condensed out to fit into the SNL monologue.

They've gotten better but they're still not really good. I do think Che would be better with someone to bounce off of. I get what they're going for with Jost, but I just don't think he's a strong enough performer to pull it off. Someone like Seth Meyers might have the chops to do that kind of "privileged" bit, but

I think the early Wiig/Lonely Island era, from 2006 - 2008 or so, was pretty strong too. The Tina Fey/Sarah Palin time period seems like the last time SNL has really been a force culturally.

You're kind of just describing sketch comedy in general though, no? It's a pretty inconsistent art form, and I say that as someone who loves it. The whole point is that it's a little rougher and less focused than say, a sitcom or a movie, and even the best sketch shows have bits that don't work at all.

I'm exaggerating a little, they've gotten marginally better but they're still pretty bottom of the barrel to me.

I'm watching on a DVR delay. Hot for Teacher is the most I've laughed at SNL in a while. It was a funny, original concept with some un-SNL-like absurdity that ended at just the right time. Just good, solid sketch comedy.

"It was never good" is definitely wrong. SNL by nature is inconsistent, but each era has its highs and lows and there are definitely times when it's better than others. I think, with the exception of lows like the early '80s and the Sandler era, every era has a few years where everything "gels" and the show is fairly

Yeah, it's a great idea. More basic cable shows should do stuff like this.

I don't know about therapy but I do bet it's somehow mental illness related. The way she was driving around like that last episode really suggested that something wasn't quite right.

I love that this show is slowly incorporating American Dad/Don't Trust the B absurdity into a family sitcom.

Hickey seems like such a pointless character in retrospect, in that they focused so much of Season 5 on him only to have him literally never be mentioned again after Basic Sandwich. He was a good character, but looking back I don't love that he got so much time dedicated to him in a season that should've been focusing
