I do feel like other politically-charged comedians get this kind of feedback too. I think Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have gotten it to an extent. It's just part of the territory of being a politically-bent comedian. The major difference is that Fey never really set out to be that kind of comedian and was sort of

I think my reaction is pretty fair. I thought it was funny but maybe a little tone deaf. Am I not allowed to think that? Do I have to salvate over everything Tina Fey does?

I agree that it was the intention but the reaction would suggest that the execution wasn't super clear. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that Fey has become known for this kind of "tell it like it is" political rant (the "bitches get stuff done" bit was on Update too after all) so people expect the same

This is basically it. She was put on a pedestal as this "truth teller, voice of the people" type figure because she was one of the more outspoken liberal comedians during the Bush era and the '08 election but when it comes down to it she's just another wealthy entertainment industry figurehead who is pretty far

Getting "outraged" over this is silly, but "analyzing whether or not it was a successful piece of social commentary" is fair game, particularly on a website whose speciality is to analyze pop culture.

Fans tend to have meltdowns whenever the grade of a show gets too low so I don't really blame reviewers for generally grading higher.

This felt like this season's Get Schwifty to me - kind of a half-assed plot, but still a lot of fun and with some good character moments.

Yeah, which makes sense considering Awkward Black Girl was full of that kind of humor. I missed that in S1 so I'm glad it seems to be a focus in S2. I feel like they've also brought back some of the surreal humor of ABG (scenes like Issa briefly passing out from paint fumes while on the phone and Kelli's fingering had

Yeah AV Club has basically reverted to only reviewing shows they feel are worthy of individualized attention so it makes sense that there wouldn't be many low grades. When they reviewed almost everything there were tons of Ds/Fs. (The Glee reviews are also a fun read!)

I feel like they've really strengthened the comedy this season without losing the character focus/serialization. It's really great, I feel like this is one of the few "dramadies" that actually pays enough attention to both the comedy and the drama.

Spoilerphobia is reaching new heights. I've seen a bunch of Doctor Who fans complaining that BBC is "releasing major spoilers" by announcing who's been cast as the 13th Doctor and swearing they'll remain unspoiled on their identity until the Christmas special (uh good luck with that?)

5 > 9 > 4 > 10 > 6 > 1 > 8 > 3 > 2 > 7

Moffat said he put the "I can make you human again" line in specifically so Chinball could bring Bill back if he wanted.

This is one show that I thought totally could've been extended out to 13+ episodes. It was a lot of fun hanging out with these characters and I didn't feel any signs of straining to fill time.

A lot of people compared Bill to Donna…just another way they're similar. :/

I know it's all due to timing and stuff but it really does piss me off a little that we only got one season of Bill after three seasons of Clara.

It's really feeling very OITNB S1 in the way characters that begin as stereotypes are gradually being fleshed out and our perceptions of them are warping. Not a lot of shows pull that off so kudos to Jenji Kohan who has done it twice now.

I don't think we really have enough information to know whether the kid is right or not. If the school is corrupt and fucked up, then good on him, but it's also possible he's a whiny entitled brat who's upset over the usual dumb teenage things. How are we supposed to know from a minute of a graduation speech?

I feel you. I mean there are responses in this very comment section casually dismissing teachers as "people who too shitty to do any other job" and "people with authority complexes" so it's hard not to have a knee-jerk reaction. (I'm also a teacher!)

I've heard their strategy is to wait until juuuust when the show falls out of the publicity cycle and then renew it so it gets another round of press.
