I feel like both of those episodes are basically perfect, and each represent the total opposite sides of the shows' strengths: insane show-biz satire and gut-wrenching character drama.

Yeah, it's really only a problem if you're a TV critic or a network executive trying to compete. You know…the only people complaining about "peak TV."
So you're writing off an entire generation because of one shitty concert?
It really feels like a lot of this "90s" nostalgia is actually late '90s/early '00s nostalgia. Even the Teenick 90s line-up plays early 00s cartoons.
Even kids now are just getting into Full House. I would say it doesn't really relate to any era. Also, it sucks.
That episode was rough, but so fucking good.
I think the whole point of the show is that "the review ordered him to do so" is a terrible excuse for ruining yours and other people's lives and jeopardizing their wellbeing. Everything that happens in this show is Forrest's fault.
Since this is the AV Club and everything has to relate back to Community, I've always felt like Futurama and Community had weirdly similar trajectories in terms of quality.
That's kind of weird then that Netflix doesn't stream those. I know with Parks & Rec there's a few episodes that had longer "producers' cuts" that were available on the DVDs and Netflix streams those versions rather than the broadcast ones. I wonder what the difference is?
….so a crazy person
Yes, Hunger Deans is best left forgotten. I remember that was the first clip they used to promote S4, and even then everyone was just like "…oh shit."
I've always really liked the opening to 401 and I think it's actually a pretty decent episode, all things considered (minus Hunger Deans). It sets up a lot of themes that could've made for a decent S4 (the group disbanding, Jeff graduating, Abed's anxiety) but then they just…did nothing with them.
It's crazy how much I have completely forgotten about this season. As in all of it. Except for the hot air balloon song. That was catchy!
Yeah, him and Taran Killam are the two people that I can't believe actually started on MAD TV. And both were cut after like a season.
There was some good stuff from MADTV but I'd say they wasted their talent at least 70% of the time.
Agreed. I mean I reaaaaalllllly hope they aren't true and I'm certainly not convinced at this point, but Louis CK is probably the biggest name in comedy right now and I absolutely don't think anyone would be brave enough to come forward if it were true. I don't think the Cosby situation has changed shit, sadly.…
This puts us on track for a Netflix-produced 3rd season in ~2 years!
He was totally trying to emulate Don Draper, right?
I was rewatching early S1 episodes the other day and I completely forgot he was ever a thing. Glad they dropped him though, "kid teaches cold adult how to love!!!" is a boring ass plot and not at all right for this show.
This was a really excellent season premiere. The humor feels even sharper and the characters are right back to their normal selves. I know it's early but this felt like it could be the start of a Community/30 Rock-level second season to me. It just has that feel of a show on a roll.
