If I remember correctly, he's on the street playing violin instead of his main instrument, the cello.  Downey's character winds up getting him a cello later, I think. I vaguely remember the movie except that Foxx was good in it.

Daniel Plainview and his story were compelling.  This one sounds interesting on paper but not as it played out.  I was ready to leave more than once but stayed, hoping Anderson had something up his sleeve.  Nope.

Wow.  I think that trailer for LINCOLN looks really, really bad.  Except Day Lewis almost sells the "now! now! now!" thing.  But otherwise, the trailer wouldn't have looked too out of place unsplooling before TROPIC THUNDER.

I think he's got serious directorial chops, but his writing usually just isn't compelling.  I think about 70% of MAGNOLIA is fantastic which is enough, and THERE WILL BE BLOOD is superb.  THE MASTER suffers not only because the characters are unlikable (The Master even admits to Quell that only he likes the guy, and…
