Supposedly RCA pulled it within weeks, making it possibly the fastest new release-turned-cutout in history. Sales stats are that it sold 100,000 which isn't bad.

I think RDW is passable but, man: I don't know how many times I went to throw on BLONDE ON BLONDE, realized I'd have to skip over RDW or live with it, and just sighed and put something else on. If it had shown up on one of the Bootleg series, I think we all would've had more perspective on it.

Just listened to "Lotus" for the first time and, yeah, it's pretty bad.

I'm also down for SANDINISTA! It's probably my favorite of their albums, just as THE BEATLES is my favorite Beatles record.

@ Give Me Libby Casey or Give Me Death

I think this was the second movie he directed, and the first was THE CHOCOLATE WAR.

Wow. NO IDEA how my white album comment got attached to a Metallica thread.

There's not a misstep on that album. It's almost like they put out their greatest hits album as a debut.

"The Gift" is pretty terrific. Even if you don't like the story, you can just listen to the other channel.

Keith Gordon is an interesting director
…but, as you point out: more in his choice of material than his actual execution. This is the closest he's gotten so far to knocking one out of the park, though. It's a really good film. I'm glad that AV Club gives it a tip of the hat.

@ AV Club Ist Krieg

I think SANDINISTA! is the even messier cousin, and each is my favorite from the respective groups. Just artists holing up in a studio for a while being very prolific andjust unleashing it.

@ famous Mortimer

That's a good pick. I think the performance makes it passable, but yeah.

@ Ben folds fan

Yeah — Malcom wanted them to write a song with the title, as I understand.

"their heydey"

Yep.

"Submission" -The Sex Pistols
Dumb and boring. Even The Ramones couldn't have made this charming.

It's a song I appreciate in concept but cannot bear to actually hear. Maybe because the pseudo-primal nature seems so gratingly forced.
