Lou Reed
Side three of METAL MACHINE MUSIC almost derails the whole thing for me.

The song you're reaching for from they're heydey is "The Wrong Child" from GREEN. Not a great album, but arguably their first truly awful song. Just check the title.
I think each of the tracks you mentions helps texture the albums they're on, really.
Sorry I wasn't clear:
I think the song to lose from THE BEATLES is probably "Wild Honey Pie."
"Wild Billy's Circus Story" is one of the best songs he's written. It's an amazing song which captures the surreal nature of how a brand new alien experience can be an explosion of imagery or even poetry.
I was half expecting "The Murder Mystery" to show up. Yeesh.
A CHRISTMAS GIFT FOR YOU
Signing off the album with Spector's spoken word, not very humble thanks on "Silent Night" leaves a pretty bad taste in the mouth.
The Police - "Mother"
Can't believe this wasn't mentioned. Copeland has pretty much admitted this was his purpose.
It's an okay attempt, but it's not very cohesive. I wouldn't skip it every single time.
Meeting Across the River
Wow. I love that song.
That trailer looked awful, but I got a big laugh out of it toward the end. She's "playing" the guitar for the big show stopper, hits the chord that opens the chorus and thrusts her hand triumphantly in the air, continues the song and the guitar has vanished. I know it was just an edit for the trailer, but it reminds…
I think the PG-13 is Spielberg's influence. He was a producer on this, and he's been known to wrangle the rating he wants.

Trailers playing before this
I went to see TRUE GRIT today, and the trailers started unspooling. One looked like yet another crappy Nic Cage movie and I just sort of shook my head. The trailer ended, the next trailer started… and it's ANOTHER crappy looking Nic Cage movie. One was about Nic coming back from Hell…
VERNA: Why don't you go home and dry out?
Er — "Train" Your Dragon.
SPOILERS
I made it about three pages in on that first Peretti book and stopped. The writing was just nauseatingly bad.
Er… "before."
