@ Holland Oates

I worked for a startup for a while and the place totally took off. This kind of reminds me of that. It was really, really fun while my department was just a handful of people, but it became evident pretty quickly that some of the climbers had zero ethics — and that zero ethics "works."

@ Flaubert Cooper

Man, I was disappointed with BLACK SWAN, and I usually really like Aronofsky's work. But I don't think the directing is the problem — it's Portman. The way she plays the character is really unlikable. How can someone with so much discpline have so little spine? She's just whining and falling apart from almost the

Yeah, I think Let It Be gets that dubious honor.

Okay, I'll give you that, but its rep is so huge that, to the general public and casual jazz fans, THAT'S the album they know from that period. And I'd argue that it's probably the weakest of the bunch.

I wish Impulse had let him record The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady uninterrupted. I mean, he clearly edits te pices anyway, but still. My bead on this is that he's grasping for a hit. I know he wants that Best Director statue, too — he was so mad that Soderbergh won that even when the producers of GLADIATOR urged him to come to the dais he refused. Kind of a shame, because GLDIATOR wasn't really Best Picture material, so he actually got lucky and

The ESQUIRE story was really poor
Not really train-wreck awful, but marked by a real poverty of imagination. I like him quite a bit as an actor and as the subject of interviews, so I really hope he grows into this. I don't begrudge him a third or fourth or fifth career whatsoever; I do begrudge Esquire using up
