Great interview
Deep. I'm surprised of Dunn's pack mentality beliefs despite comprehending all the cult overtones of Geek Love. I'm not really big on the whole "we're all just animals" thing and don't really care who's the most predatory species. But I would still totally love to have a cup of coffee with her. If you

Me too. It took "Blood on the Tracks" after a bored childhood of involuntarily listening to his greatest hits. I got into him because I was supposed to get into him by buying his Vol 2. Greatest Hits and still struggled to feign interest. But really listening to "Blood on the Tracks" for the first time (because it's

I loved how that revolting moment in the book actually ended up drawing me closer to Oly. At first, you feel rightfully protective of her as a reader since she's the narrator and then Dunn seems to laugh at your unnecessary concern by allowing Oly to enjoy reveling in her freakdom. Significant moment for me.

Whoops, I meant principals. Oh, and if Zach Snyder directs the film, who wants to start the gambling pool on his self-indulgent carnival explosion finale or when Dr. P commits surgery on herself in the early years? I'm also surprised no one mentioned Todd Solondz.

Thanks, Awesome Due. Your summary of why you cared for Oly was really touching and I agree with you.

Thanks, Leonard
I appreciated your comments the most. A subject you mentioned, and something I'm surprised no one else on the staff brought up so far, I believe, is the narrative structure. Although I hope I can join in live, could you all please elaborate on this crucial element of the book Friday?

Sigh…I wanted to avoid this inevitable movie casting post but I can't. Tilda Swinton for Dr. P. Ed O'Neil for Al. I don't know about the principles.

"inexplicable infatuation with Arturo"
My 13-year-old sister told me, a few days before I concluded the book, that she wants to become a mom at 16. Trying to conceal my surprise, I gave her the standard desperate advice to try and preserve her youth for as long as she can because parenthood abruptly ends that, yadda,

What I wanted
I wanted for Oly to connect with her daughter and found the ending touching.

Cliche #4: Lack of development
Well, Zack, the book is 347 pages long. I think Dunn made the most of what she could. Maybe you wanted to double that length but I had to cram this book into four solid days of reading and feel worn out. And also, Oly as typically our sole narrator (outside of Norval's reports),

Straightforward response to Bowman questions
So many good thread ideas among us…I don't know where to begin and don't have the time so I'm just going to respond to Bowman:

Yeah, no one can shut you up or edit you over in a blog. Absolute freedom is a messy thing sometimes. Funky syncopation = "The Wizard". Ward fills in the gaps perfectly.

As soon as you mentioned Bill Ward as a funky drummer, King, my instant cloud of ??? dissolved as the intro to N.I.B. wandered into my head. Lexicon, out of all the people here, I'd read your blog the most. Got one?

You need to Youtube that!

My gateway too. It was impossible to resist that incredible cover.

Fascinating, lexicon. Why do we stop at three albums? Just curious, due to Master of Reality.

I have those latter two on vinyl and paid much more than $10. Stellar grab, Ayn.

Word, idiotking! And you're awesome, Posey for taking your kid at that age.

I got that crown jewel too. My favorite Funkadelic soul song? Easily: "I'll Stay" from Standing on the Verge of Getting It On. All of you "no soul" people check that one out and remind yourselves to think before typing:

I've seen her live twice and she is a positively dreamy, intriguing presence. And for all you AV Club nuts, she did name her first album after a line from Arrested Development.
