Gourmet Salami
King doesn't break any new ground here, but he covers familiar territory faster than ever. I'm somewhat happy that this pace prevented the book from bloating to 2000 pages. However I'm disappointed that King didn't linger on any moment or character long enough to forge a meaningful impression.

The Eternal
I love SY but I haven't been able to fall in love with this album.

Pretty Good List
Kinda surprised that Muse, Flaming Lips, and Passion Pit didn't make this list. Surely they were close to making the cut here. My favorite LP of the year might be Exploding Head (A Place To Bury Strangers), but I understand that noisy shoegaze isn't really for everyone.

That is one skanky video. I give it multiple thumbs up.

This was the first time I could join a discussion, and I really appreciate the insight provided by other participants. Please keep this going. I'd be open to starting later, but definitely not earlier. I'm barely awake by 3PM.

Wouldn't you say that Muldrow burrowed past the point of no return in this story? Could he be integrated back into the military or society if he had been rescued by Americans at the end? I don't think so. Muldrow would eventually reject human society and Return To The Cold At All Costs. He just needed a push over

@Buck-toothed Girl
I think there are two stories about Muldrow that can be extracted from White Sea. One is the inner conflict wherein a man has regressed to a near-feral mental state. The other story is the external conflicts the man faces in his migratory journey to safety. When I wrote the above post I imagined

Without War
I agree that the story of Muldrow's descent into isolation would have worked without the backdrop of WWII. He'd be a stranger in all lands, and was fated to withdraw deep into his own mind and transcribe this journal of madness. The fact that he was a soldier barely registered as I read the concluding

It appears to be a blu-ray with a new hi-def transfer of the old Criterion dvd. I don't think they are updating the DVD release. I'll have to grab this.

A spiritual journey should yield greater insight of your existence. I viewed this book as a poetic exploration of a man's psychoses as he peels away his humanity. I was a casual observer to this exploration, but I didn't walk away with an enlightened perspective of mankind, animalkind, snowkind, etc.

I'm starting to think this score is threadbait. The review doesn't offer enough legit criticism to justify a score under a B, and the reviewer has gone on record giving a high score to a 2D platformer sequel with zero innovation over its predecessors.

@The Scarlet Letter Pi:
Bag of Bones successfully describes the psychological dislocation of losing a loved one. Mike Noonan is haunted by the memories of his recently deceased wife, as well as by her spirit. This book came out a few years after my mother died at the age of 32, and my Dad claimed this book was eerily

Yeah I'm a little wary of this book, too. Recent SK has been Hit (Lisey's Story, 1/2 of Duma Key) or Miss (Cell, 1/2 of Duma Key). I'm not worried about a bad ending, but I don't feel like slogging through another King book that needs a 10% trim. The size of this book leaves me worried that I'll get mired in the

I think the North represents extreme cold and snow, a place where Nature (or God) is undiluted or altered by man. I think Muldrow wants to be integrated somehow with snow, to transcend his body and transform into the cold wind. I wonder if Dickey wants us to consider that as similar to the Zen monk's philosophy of

A Stranger
Thanks for this recommendation. I was unfamiliar with the voice of James Dickey before reading this book, and now I look forward to reading more.

Angel Heart - Perfect for Christmas
Bear witness to the shocking sex scene between Mickey Rourke and Lisa Bonet! Also : Death Gumbo! Chicken Sacrifice! Robert DeNiro!

Fingers Crossed
I hope this is a continuation of the Precious storyline.

A hoard of whores! A mess of muffs!

Verily, it was awesome. Yoshi eggs for all!

Thanks for providing a little context regarding the Myst line. I think you make good points about the dichotomy of single and multiplayer gameplay. I just don't see how you can give Mega Man 9 an A- when it doesn't advance the series' gameplay one iota, but then give this title a C+ for stepping beyond the series'
