I think the ZAZ team actually had a lot of affection for all those cheesy airborne disaster movies. They wrote top quality gags, but almost as importantly, they had quantity. I once tried to count the gags (not easy) and got to 220. That averages out to 2.5 laffs per minute.

The 12 Angry Men with Peter Fonda never happened either. The one with Henry did though.

There was a Spinal Tap gag about that Sammy Davis Jr. book. I forget how it goes.
