Ugh, that was the last straw for me too. Up until then I was still watching the new one every week. Homer vs. Dignity was awful. It was never the same after that. WORST. EPISODE. EVER.

I second The Late Phillip J. Fry. I don't think it quite gets the love it deserves since it wasn't in the original run. It hits the perfect balance between super cool theoretical sci-fi stuff, emotional resonance, and goofy humor that make the show so great. Plus the animation is stunningly beautiful.

The high school reunion episode is up there with the all-time cringe-iest episodes of tv I've ever seen. Ken Marino chugging that liquor bottle is horrifying, and then so perfectly undercut with the "WOOOOO!" by his high school buddy

I think what makes it such a classic is that Michael and Jan's relationship was so dysfunctional but just kept escalating as time went on, and this episode was the powder keg finally exploding. The darkness of it (it is definitely dark) doesn't go overboard because all the little details of Michael and Jan's life…

There are lots of great ones, but I always comes back to Underage Drinking: A National Concern. It is a perfect encapsulation of the show.
