Couldn't a writer just once credit a writer for getting a movie made from what she's written exactly the way she wrote it? There was a 50/50 chance a more experienced director would have turned it into a D-minus movie rather than a B-minus one. And for the writer, there'd be no second chance.
His movies became progressively worse when Mel cast himself in the leads. Director, producer, writer, supporting actor … few better. Leading man, not so much.
