I'm not sure what you mean by "He's no Malcolm X." He was certainly his own man and a hell of an iconoclast at that.

As a rule I don't like biopics because all have this tendency to show the subject's life as a simple drama but this sounds exceptionally shameful since Jackie's life could make such a great movie.
There's still room for Spike Lee to make a movie about the integration of baseball, yes? Not a biopic but the story of the

"Bang, zoom, to the moon, Cap!"

Right now I think I'd move Fear of Music and More Songs to 2 & 3 respectively, knocking all the rest down a notch.

I think I would like True Stories more if some but not all of the songs were the versions from the soundtrack.

I like 77 but it feels half-formed to me.

I get why someone would think he might be insufferable (I don't but we're all different personalities and we can't all like each other) but I have no idea where you'd get the idea that he'd be an a-hole. He always comes across so nice in interviews and other media.

I remember being thrilled to learn that Penn was a VU fan when I saw this on video. Which was probably about a month after you saw it in its theatrical release.

Supergrass was winning by outlasting either of them but then Supergrass broke up and Blur reformed so I think somehow the Gallagher brothers won because they don't have to work with each other anymore.

The Brand New Heavies get a songwriting credit on the album track for pete's sake!

I'm pretty sure that @avclub-39dd889e0ab668280dbd73c93917e652:disqus is wrong.

Supposedly Adam Gidwitz's fractured takes on Hansel & Gretel (and Jack & Jill?) are going to be made into live action films. The latest crop of fairy tale movies does not make excited about this prospect,

should have been "Demolition Dan"

I don't disagree but those two do a great job of setting the tone.
