Yes, that's what I expected, given the plot context. But watching the actors, it didn't seem like a heated conversation. And the movements were weird.
Holy crap. That was magnificent. I don't always get from even The Leftovers or Rectify or Hannibal or Fargo or Manhattan the depths and the charge I got from that (apples and oranges, I know….but that was a helluva orange). This show - always a seeming over-achiever for the sort of thing it is - just smashed right…
…because the female main character's breasts are in no way an intentionally important part of the show, right? I.e., please disregard these tits that are constantly displayed, shaken, jiggled, squeezed, flaunted, and joked about throughout the show.
My problem is that she doesn't give convincing performances in this supposed tour de force. She just doesn't have the range. At all. Anything beyond "cute and plucky" is unconvincing.

I don't understand how the judge came away appreciative of Alicia after Eli tipped him off. Eli surely didn't mention that the information came from Alicia, he's way too smart to draw her into that. So why was the judge so appreciative that he gave her a disproportionate share of cases?

True, but there's a converse effect where people who are true polymaths are looked at skeptically when they speak up on a topic outside their most conspicuous expertise. Many highly-qualified people are way more well-rounded then the public is willing to give them credit for.
