indeed it was awesome.
indeed it was awesome.
Saw it today. LOVED IT. it's a perfect film. Albert Brooks was amazing and the most suprisingly effective cast bad guy since Henry Fonda in "Once Upon a Time in the West". I'm not kidding.
I'm not going to be an assclown and pretend I get more out of it then you did, I didn't but I just enjoyed the style. Refn basically borrowed some of the style of Tarkovsky,"Aguirre, the Wrath of God" era Herzog and some spagetti westerns then splashed it on a fairly simple viking story. It just worked for me but I…
Its the only Refn I haven't seen (other then Drive but I'm seeing that tommorow) I want to obviously but I cant' seem to find it anywhere and netflix (last i checked) doesn't even have it listed on Refn's filmography. is it good?
Pusher 2 and 3 are way better then the first one (IMHO) especially 2. i like the first one fine but it's my least favorite in the trilogy and of all of Refn's films that I've seen.
One of my favorite younger directors working right now. I love everything he's done (even Fear X and Valhalla Rising) Pusher 2 I think is one of the best films of the last 10 years.
Yeah, I thought the flashback structure worked beautifully in this one. Easily an A- or A. One of the best of the season. For those who have been frustrated with the season spinning it's wheels ((not my opinion but i'm sure it's some peoples') since the crazy shit that happened in the last 2 episodes of the last…
I'm not waving the flag for capitalism here but …so what? I didn't go see those movies. I stayed home watching awesome stuff off netflix all summer. If I couldn't find the art film I wanted on netflix, I'd make the long drive to the college hipster video store that still has vhs and rent stuff like the new…
yeah, that's what I was saying by Harvey Keital must be annoyed that 2 of his best movies have been remade (Fingers and Bad Lieutenant) I liked The Beat that My Heart Skipped quite a bit, not as much as the original or that director's next movie ("A Prophet") but it was really good. Some think it's better then the…
Toback is a somewhat talented asshole. "Fingers" is the best thing he's ever done. it has a lot of his pet obsessions in it as well as a gritty "Mean Streets" esque look and probably Harvey Keitel's best performance other then Bad Lieutenant (weird how both those movies were remade this decade…Keitel must be…
Definately. I mean like I said Dexter Morgan and Tony Soprano's crimes are greater (Walter has still really only directly killed anyone out of defense, I'm not counting the harm he's caused indirectly which is greater of course ) then Walter's but those characters still maintain the audiences' sympathy for the most…
I remember having a conversation with my ex-girlfriend who I used to watch a lot of shows including this one with about tv show anti-heroes. At the time we were watching "Dexter" (before it sucked) and I was comparing Dexter Morgan to Tony Soprano and Walter White in their sympathetic rating. She thought Dexter was…
What I watched instead of "The Help" or flooding this weekend: Netflix finally fixed the streaming for the 3rd part of Olivier Ossayas' "Carlos" which I really enjoyed. I watched some 4th season of X-Files including "Small Potatoes" which was a lotta fun. Also watched last night's Breaking Bad and also Alain Resnais'…
Great interview! I love Wurlitzer's work. I read "Flats" and "Quak" the summer before last and I'm going to read Nog soonish after I wrap up my Genet bing. Some of the movies he wrote tend to be my favorite films by their respective directors:Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (Peckinpah), Two Lane Blacktop(Hellman),…
That is pretty awesome. I LOVE Cranston/Breaking Bad and I love that he's in the new Refn movie as Refn is one of my favorite directors (Pusher 2 is one of the best films of the decade) Cranston's done a good job directing episodes of Breaking Bad (not really standout direction or style but that's the nature of…
Glad I'm being backed up on here! yeah, like I said DO NOT want to defend corporations and am not a cheerleader for pure capitalism but to all the commentators on here who rail against the free market…all your favorite shows are a product of capitalism.(except for the occassional bbc show ) yes, beautiful foreign…
that sarcastic "college lefty" bit wasnt' directed at anyone specifically btw
that awesome. I need to get the first season on dvd to hear those commentaries. I've seen the whole first season when it was on netflix instant a while back so it hasn't been a rush purchase yet. I'm a huge a movie dork so I appreciate that about CK and Oswalt.
Fox lets its shows (Simpsons, Family Guy etc) mock and make fun of the network's politics/biased reporting with a fair amount of frequency so this isn't that suprising. The E! Channel also lets "The Soup" make fun of that channel's shallow worship of celebrity all the time (at least last I checked I dont' really…
How amazingly well shot were those flashbacks in "Eddie"?? This show's cinematography is always amazing but fuck! Either Louie has a very hip cinematographer or Louie is a bigger cinephile then he shows off in his standup like Patton Oswalt does.
