He was a great actor. Loved him in Husbands and Chinese Bookie. I actually think in some ways he was the best Bukowksi in Marco Ferreri's "Tales of Ordinary Madness". That film should be better known to Bukowski-heads. I like Barfly as much as anybody but that film is more like Bukowski's books then his poetry whereas

In the last couple years, I saw a car decal variation on "Calvin pissing": same artwork but Calvin is pissing on the name "Vick" which I'm assuming is an anti- Michael Vick statement. Which either means the driver is a racist or a PETA supporter type. But since it was a big "good ole' boy" style red truck, I'm gonna

Didn't John McCain piss some "classic rock" guy off in the '08 election for using their song? I'm too lazy to look up who. I tell ya, it's slim pickins for republican politicians in the campaign song department. Most people in the arts (i.e. musicians) lean to the left so they don't want their music being

This guy's insistance on moving Netflix to instant only hurts 2 groups the most:

That's funny. This story reminds me of my first concert the (I think) '97 Lollapalooza. The Eels were playing "Novocaine" on the "small bands" stage near the "big bands" stage where Snoop Dogg was performing at the same time. The band finished the song and their singer spoke in this droll monotone voice "Um….excuse,

Netflix recently added Terriers to Instant and I plowed threw when i wasn't studying or wrapping up exams. Man, I wish I'd supported that show when it was on though I doubt it would have changed anything. I missed the show before I was even finished it. Best one season show since Freaks and Geeks. (though obviously

The 2 most annoying "points" Cody/Juno defenders/apologists try to make ever since that movie came out are:

Ok…I acknowledge that I've paid next to no attention to this case at all, that I'm completely talking out of my ass here with my conspiracy theories but I'm skeptical of his guilt. My hatred of corporate media is probably feeding this (IS) but I feel like the media were desperate to prolong the "Death of Michael

living in Virginia, i don't usually get to see all of the "best" till halfway into the next year if i'm even interested in seeing them. Still havent' seen either of Herzog's latest docs, "Shame" (really excited about that one), Hugo, Melancholia, etc.

over the holidays let's see…. the only movie I saw in theatres was Almodovar's "The Skin I Live" and I really enjoyed it. Messed up thriller. Almodovar should do more of films like that. Completely disagree with Tobias' review. I think he's just tired of Almodovar or in the mood to be tired of him and was letting it

So glad Rampling did a "Random Roles". Love her. I got my last girlfriend into her movies and she had a girlie crush on her. (for some reason I was proud of that).

What I watched instead of theatre shit:

what I watched instead of going to the theatre:
I spend the last few days finishing Henry Miller's "Tropic of Cancer'' so I didn't watch much except for Eisenstein's "Strike!" which was I liked not as much as Potemkin but tight editing (one expects that from Eisenstein) and direction. I also watched Visconti's

She also had a great scene with that guy that played Caesar in HBO's Rome in Todd Solondz's Happiness sorta-sequel "Life During Wartime".

I love her one breakdown scene in "Stardust Memories" that may be her best acting ever and it's less then 3 minutes. Also "The Night Porter" is slowly becoming one of my fave movies ever (though a lliiiittle bit more for Dirk Bogarde's performance) She's also amazing in "Farewell My Lovely", "Zardoz", "The Verdict",

I don't agree at all with Murray about Altman. He made some nice movies in his later years but nothing touches his great 70s run (Nashville, McCabe & Mrs. Miller, Thieves like Us, The Long Goodbye, 3 Women etc)

just thought of another one: Peter Bogdonavich's only (sorta) horror "Targets" which was Boris Karloff's last movie. good one. oh, and "Eyes without a Face".

my official list, I guess:
The Changeling(George C. Scott NOT Jolie)
Daughters of Darkness
Vampyrs
Vampyr(Dreyer)
Wicker Man (original)
Don't Look Now
any Hammer studio Frankenstein film with Peter Cushing
Bride of Frankenstein
Nosferatu (original or Herzog)
Rosemary's Baby
The Tenant (Polanski)
Possession (Zulawski)
The Innocents
Z

I thought Vampyres was much better made then I was expecting it to be. The first "biting" scene with the girls attacking the guy was more disturbing then I was expecting it to be. but you're right about the quality of "Daughters of Darkness" and I love Delphine Seyrig in that film. I also love how it's a lesbian

Just recently watched 2 of the films on this list:
watched "The Innocents" this weekend and loved, the people who made "The Others" obviously had this one in mind. Also watched "Daughters of Darkness" a few months ago and LOVED it. I know this may be heresy around but I liked it more "Let the Right One In" (i'm only
