One big difference for me was that having chapters written from Amy's point of view in the book, she seems somewhat less psychotic and more manipulative, vain, and vengeful.

I had trouble hearing it too. I got what the director was going for in the mannered, hushed dialogue, but it was difficult to understand their speeches

Like many of you, I saw Gone Girl. Very intense and very well done. After seeing Rosamund Pike often play the (incredibly) pretty girl next door, she really showed she could act as Amy. Perfect casting. As were Tyler Perry and Kim Dickens. Affleck did all right too.

For me, it is when Sally Fields makes her passionate speech about what it is like to lose her daughter and how none of them understand. That scene tears me apart every time.

Upvoted for be a cantankerous hermit just like me!

All's fair in lust and creepy tumblrs

The Facebook post of this article has more likes than I've ever seen on an av club FB post and a bunch of young en commenting about their "orgasmic" delight at this news.

I feel like a lot of people have pointed out the sexism in the "stupid husband/know-it-all wife" trope that has become all too common. And while I don't think there is a "war on men" in Hollywood, I do think that this trope is damaging to both men (presented as dumb neanderthals that could clean their own chins

well, now you have me questioning my memory. I'd have to re-watch too to be sure. I'm pretty sure, because the implication was that she was his grandmother, which wouldn't have been so clearly the case if he said grandparents

It was truly a look of affection on that fleshless face

I have nothing of substance to add to the discussion. Only that I love this batshit crazy show

I'd pay money to see that!

I think you might be right about the foot in the door. actors make more money in American productions than in Britain, even if you were the Doctor

I loved Happy Valley, and liked Halifax. The draw (IMHO) for Halifax is the strong acting, which helps to overcome a lot of the soapiness

Sarah Lancashire is great!

I've never seen this show, but this is the second time I've seen a clip of it linked from here, and it looks crazy. Clearly, I need to find it on DVD

Yes, yes, yes, yes. So good — one of my favorite shows ever. And John Noble…on acid! Need I say more?

I didn't admit to anyone that I watched this show when it was first on because I was in my 20s and it was considered a teen show. But I did the same thing as you with Buffy and my friend that was constantly telling me how much I would like it. Of course, she was right and I was wrong

same here. i hated that. they could have had a plotline in which Rory asserts her independence from Lorelai without it being nuclear, but then again, the Gilmores all seem to either be getting along or going nuclear with no inbetween in their emotions.

question: would the April plot line have been less annoying if April wasn't a mini-Rory and was a distinct character?
