It's totally cool not to care for his style, but to me "lo-fi" means "muddy" or "unclear/blurry", either as an unintended result of cheap/sub-optimal recording equipment or conditions, and/or as a deliberate aesthetic choice.

Shannon McArdle made a couple solo records, (the song "Poison my Cup" off Summer of the Whore is great), but the last one was in 2012.

Albini's aesthetic isn't "lo-fi". Albini's aesthetic is incredibly clear and razor-sharp, the way an Ansel Adams black and white photo is. And I don't understand how feeling that you are inside the kickdrum of God Himself (or John Bonham, but I repeat myself) could be considered "sonically weak".

Nicely-said, and I agree this album is an underrated one. Yes, some of the lyrics and songwriting might be just a mite undercooked, but it's got mood and atmosphere and feeling for miles.
