wtf is kinja lol

wtf is kinja lol

I never had a chance to tell you: great username/avatar.

If I don't see you all on the other side, it was a fun ride.

I really, really like their self-titled debut - it's much more lo-fi, but it reminds me of GbV, The Clean, Galaxie 500, The Clientele, The Feelies, early IRS-era R.E.M. - basically every great hazy jangly band with killer songs.

I don't see the new Burial quite as positively as Sean does. It's not bad ambient by any means ("Beachfires" almost has a 2814 feel, with a ghostly smeared-out Eastern-ish melody) , but making it 100% nearly formless atmosphere at the total expense of tunes/beats does not bode well IMO, especially when I was kind of

Galaxie rules.

Point of grammatical and editing order: "its + own" is redundant since both words indicate possession, and your question, like the headline, could simply read "Does [X] Justify Its Existence?"

!!! need to ditch the supremely-annoying Nic Offer and get back to making Out Hud records.

Disagree: it has TWO notes, as opposed to "I Wanna Be Sedated"'s ONE note.

Yeah, better late than never on that but that album is a g-d classic.

Probably because at 6:04 (album length - looks like it was edited down to 4:02 for that vid), it's STILL the shortest track on there, which makes it the "single" by default?

I can't really speak to his remix stuff, but I liked his Burial collabs.

That Four Tet/xx remix is nice. And I agree…xx're just OK.

I surprisingly liked the Fridmann song on the last one, but yeah, that's basically my worry - his style is maybe just so "busy/cluttered" that it glops up the Spoon "spare" aesthetic.

I'm having a tough time with it too. What's weird, is it still SOUNDS like Spoon, yet it's just not "sticking" like their best stuff. The difference between Spoon's best and not-best appears to be very small.

Great article, but even with a header labeled "The best bands you never heard of", ya couldn't spare a sentence for Seam?

Much like the nation, AVC comments have moved shittily rightward.

I'm glad to see such a highly original and influential band as Devo get their due, but does the fact that bands choose to emulate them in some respect constitute a named "scene" now? Are all the bands that follow in the VU's or MBV's steps "Velvetscore" and "Valentinecore"?

YES!
