I didn't take it personally, it's all good.  We aging furry-monster indie rockers gotta stick together.  Look me up next time you're at the North Pole.

Ouch.  Harsh, but fair.  I just got served cookies.

I think you meant to write "Superchunk" - that riff is "Seed Toss", sped up.

Seriously.  Pogoing Laura is 75% of the band's visual appeal live.  One of the coolest rock chicks out there.  Get well soon Laura.

If this work takes the toll on him that it does, then it stands to reason he wasn't always such a mess.  He got into this line of work presumably from a position of strength and agency, but it has ground him down.  I don't think it's weird that he'd occasionally show glimmers of what he once was (and "what he once

@avclub-87895a5a45a43b5f65c2eaaef07927bf:disqus - I think you are right from a plot perspective, but I think it also served a practical narrative one for viewers - Will is *so* passive, and becoming more and more disheveled, that it may be hard to audiences to see him as the hero (who needs to have agency) over

Blue Lines and Protection are indeed awesome, but if you could only own one MA album, it'd best be Mezzanine.   "Group 4" is just a stupidly amazing piece of music.

I respectfully disagree, Mister!

It's got too many notes.

The pre-9/11 rock album that most presciently sounds like a post-9/11 album has got to be 1996's "All the Nations' Airports" by Archers of Loaf.

That is a good one (I get "Blade of Grass" stuck in my head sometimes.)  Even Secret Swingers has a few good songs ("Lose That Dress", "Glitter of Love")

It's a good album - "Spastic Reaction", "Crazy Maker" and (especially) "Morning Glory" as mentioned in the OP, are also good tracks.

Was it just me, or was there also an element of sexual innuendo/flirtation there, "pink" being a common euphemism for "nude"?

@avclub-0592cd603d4801529227f55223d0d612:disqus - it's a shame, because as I said, the band is capable of some really nice stuff.  But the singer just is a total tool.

Out Hud was basically this guy's band, minus him.  It was far better.  Instrumental dance/rock with bits of disco, dub, postpunk, dissonance, and cello, S.T.R.E.E.T D.A.D. is a really good headphones record; nice tension/release dynamics, and the songs actually travel somewhere.

Concur on everything @avclub-13cd762222c50c46919c328c3dbf87b3:disqus says here.

If I can add another thing to that list, how weird is it that a "perfect pop song" (and JLH is) has no chorus to speak of?  I mean, the "chorus" is basically that descending shimmering guitar line.

Yes.  Yes, they were.  Even the final one (World Outside).  Talk Talk Talk is phenomenal, and even though the 80's production dates it a bit, the songs on Mirror Moves are really strong.

hey, Tones on Tail was awesome!
