Dude, I feel your pain.  Let's just say I've spent some time pondering the question. :-)

It's logistics + oblong geography, IMO.  The (not even huge/reliable) markets are far enough down the peninsula that you waste a lot of time driving all the way down, then back up and out afterwards.

"Burning Inside" just came up on shuffle last night, and it was enjoyably bracing.  Might have to dig the Ministry out (I wasn't a huge industrial guy, but Ministry and Nitzer Ebb I liked).

Just called up "Remember" and you're right, that's a good one, though even that could be a bit noisier/weirder/more energetic for my tastes - don't know whether that's a production thing, or the lack of a "full" band - I assume Pundt's playing most everything himself there, maybe with a drum machine, like East River

Cryptograms is good; Microcastle/Weird Era is GREAT.

@avclub-33c0b11e200dd2f9b60e169fe58b08cc:disqus , your username fortunately insulates you from any criticism regarding your secret shames.  Let it all hang out, man.

Much as I love Mould and Copper Blue and this song, I get your point. If there is one weakness in Mould's songwriting, it can be that he is often happy to bludgeon a melodic idea or hook to death.

Yeah, I think I saw this same doc.  At least in that telling of the incident, I could see how something like that could happen, without necessarily thinking either one of them was being the bigger dick about it.

I prefer the "Hatful" (and "Rank") more postpunk versions of many of those songs to the "proper" better-known album versions.

The s/t first one is almost like "Technique II".  "Some Distant Memory" is one of the prettiest songs Sumner's ever sung.

I've never seen the short film, but yes it is.  And it is pretty funny.  Like a hybrid of BtVS, Mallrats, and Strangers With Candy.  If you like those things you'll probably like this one.

There was one of the J Mascis albums (More Light) where he had both Shields and Pollard as guests on the album.

No, for some reason they went with the cover of "Shrink" by the Notwist:

This is a good one-two, but I don't know if it can top the way "Yours To Keep" crashes into "Echos Myron" (of course, classic GbV were sort of masters of this, sometimes even in the same tiny song - see also, "Pimple Zoo")

What, no Cheap Trick?

A live record that gets a lot of undeserved guff is Smiths' "Rank".  I personally think the live versions of the "TQID" songs are superior to the studio versions on "Queen" - the title track alone makes you remember, oh yeah, these guys are a post-punk band.
