For whatever reason (well, beyond the obvious HOO-HOO one), the first pic of Lucifer always makes me think of Mick Jagger instead.

Huh, did you read the actual interview with her or just a news article about what got her fired/in trouble (which on the face of it seems fairly tame, but only because CA didn't have any laws banning necrophilia at the time)?

@avclub-489acfbfa4d2424403acb81699170ac2:disqus - yeah, I count Endless Nights as a sort of coda to Sandman, and I agree it is great.

The Reply function seems off, so this is to @avclub-489acfbfa4d2424403acb81699170ac2:disqus :  I'll have to re-read American Gods and haven't read Graveyard Book, but I have read most of his other published stuff and for me, very little of it even approaches Sandman.  And I have always wondered why that is -  or if it

You want depraved?  Kate's necrophilia story is almost certainly based on an interview with disgraced former Sacramento mortician Karen Greenlee.

Regarding the contrast between Gaiman's sometimes workmanlike (straight, non-comics) prose and the 'impossibly beautiful/glittery sentences' that I agree he often pulls off in Sandman - why the disconnect?  Was he just young and hungry and inspired in Sandman (and maybe it was his sole focus at the time) to a degree

I think 3 of the stories in this first collection - A Hope in Hell, 24 Hours, and Sound of Her Wings - are flat-out brilliant, I think the Constantine one is pretty great, and the remainder are never less than good.  I don't understand why people think that Sandman has a shaky start story- or writing-wise.

Count me in on the 1965 love, though I agree about side 2 meandering just a bit.  But good goddam is that first half smokin' (and the second half is by no means bad).
