Like "Queen for a Day"?
Like "Queen for a Day"?
I didn't see you'd dropped in last week. I don't know that I'd be able to stomach reading all of the snarky comments about my work much less respond in such a thoughtful and open manner.
So you'd like this critic to be less critical in his criticism?
Right, and that's my problem. Without a point of view, it can't really be art (or Art). For me, at least.
I would argue that Young has talent. He may, but I haven't seen evidence of that yet. He mostly seems to have the uncanny ability to pander to the judges sensibilities. His wins have been "Prop 8, right!?" and "Ai Weiwei, right!?"
As soon as he mentioned Ai Weiwei, I knew he would win. He's got the model down:
1. Pick an issue sure to catch the judge's interest
2. Include no authorial voice whatsoever
3. Let the judges figure out something interesting to say about it
I had no love for Bayeté as an artist, but he seemed like a pretty decent person. I thought the smirk was that he saw through the misdirect and was waiting for the other shoe to drop.
He and I are destined to become fast friends due to our shared interests in money, mansion, and yacht.
Gamers have precious little to hold on to in order maintain any sense of self worth. They pretty much define themselves by their platforms and franchises of choice. Attacking a sacred cow like Uncharted was bound to result in a tsunami of ineffectual insults.
Yeah. I also have Crohn's, and I would never sign up for something like this if I wasn't more or less in remission. But I also have very little sympathy for the artists on this show that come in with a specific style and theme and refuse to adapt to the challenges.
I actually watch this from time to time, and despite my love or Patrick Warburton, the only reason I do is because of Oliver Hudson. Something about his stupid enthusiasm is really endearing to me. That said, it really is a pretty terrible show.
I don't disagree that she was a bust on SNL. I'm just saying that she clearly has talent, and I'm inclined to lay the blame on SNL—especially considering how the system there seems to designed to pump out mediocrity.
Casey Wilson on this show is a sobering reminder of how much talent on SNL gets wasted and unceremoniously kicked to the curb.
Isn't that basically the plot of Drop Dead Diva?
Speaking of, reading these re-kindled my love of the show enough that a few years ago I sought out, and found, a WNYX mug and t-shirt. There are a bunch out there, but the most faithful reproductions I could find were here:

Part of me still wishes they'd make that show
Even though deep down I know it would be the most hollow attempt to re-catch lightning in a bottle since the Star Wars Prequels.
Lighten up, Francis.
But no 'risible' this time. Gotta start somewhere.
Wrong Misfits.
Damn. I really wanted this to be about the 80s show "Misfits of Science," featuring a very young Courtney Cox. I used to think it was just a fever dream before IMDB came around to confirm my fuzzy childhood memories.
But the delivery places an emphasis on "travel size," clearly referencing the previous (but actually future) introduction of the shame wheel. Honestly, I would have found it much more satisfying if he'd said "full size rotating Vietnamese shame wheel" the first time, with the "travel size" paying it off later.
