I thought it was a party specifically for his roommate to meet the co-workers he's heard so much about, and that Jim didn't particularly want any of his actual friends to meet these people.

I don't understand how this is a complaint applicable to Moffat.  RTD started that with Rose/Martha/tiny woman on space Titanic/that boring thief lady/every female companion who wasn't Donna (who nevertheless kissed him at one point), and then the first companion Moffat wrote stayed in a committed relationship with

I am just a hoosk.

@avclub-52daa17a306006563a5361c316f87c7b:disqus  It's interesting to me that you think that Eleven is smug and invincible, because that's exactly what I dislike about RTD's writing and Ten.

Amen!

I am quite excited about both of these.

I didn't either when I was in school, so I told the school nurse that the band made my ears hurt, and then whenever there was a pep rally I was allowed to go sit in the library and read.

Yes!  Everyone praises the performances on Archer (which are indeed excellent), but the timing on that show is phenomenal, and it's almost all in the editing.  There wouldn't BE performances without the editing, and the fact that they're great says a lot.

That always kills me.

Isn't it called "Gay: A Gay Musical"?  I don't mean to be that person; it's just the repetition makes me laugh so much…

Don mentioned it was Pennsylvania "coal country" which could be the northeastern corner (roughly Scranton area).  It'd be about 2 hours from NYC, but in the opposite direction as Miss Porter's.

So, Thorson was 17 when he and Liberace met; Matt Damon is 42.  Is the character in the movie supposed to be 17 or has his age been increased?

Objection!  It is against the rules to say "I have a new puppy" and then not provide a picture!

I had no interest in Rectify based only on the title, but then I learned that it was created by Ray McKinnon (Alan Sepinwall has an interview and a review - he definitely liked it) and was sold.  I was surprised the AV Club didn't mention Reverend Smith…

My parents took my brother and I to see Sneakers in the theater.  I was 8 years old (in hindsight this was a weird parenting move on their part) and going in I thought the movie was probably about a large dog, named Sneakers, who got into wacky mishaps.

@avclub-aa22fb36340151934b048dea777dec7f:disqus  Amy wasn't a model at the end; she was a travel writer…

"Though I too would have chosen 'Derek'" made me laugh way more than I can really defend.

I think the intensity of her loyalty may be an internal, possibly unconscious justification of the rape - "Something extremely painful happened to me as part of this work; therefore the work must be worth it."  You either quit or commit harder.

I don't really see what D&D has to do with it… Thorin finding and using Orcrist is straight from the book.  Actually I think he's more resistant in the movie than in Tolkien.
