The Dockers "No Pants" ad
seemed a shamelessly blatant ripoff of Steve Sullivan's awesome short "A Heap of Trouble"

I expect you're about to find out… did you use protection?

143 "Reasonable" discussions and no Pynchon references yet?
*Really*?

Children who speak like adults tend to get old *very* quickly. Ooh, look, he's pure Id! What a twist!!

Yeah, but the christians will co-opt pretty much anything. (Pat Boone Heavy Metal WOO HOO!!!) We're all well used to that by now.

Given the apparent current popularity of musicals, Bad Horse, you might be able to successfully pitch that.

Well, Brian Aldiss also seems a little similar, but that might be just me. And, to a lesser extent, Langdon Jones.

If more science fiction brought the jubblies, the genre would be much more popular.

I'm currently wading though a bunch of early-'60s J.G. Ballard, which gives me a pretty similar feeling.

Well… OK then, I'll give it another try, eventually.

That's interesting, and means my initial rationale for my dislike is quite wrong. But i still hate it, primarily i think because of the falsity of the relationships.

I completely don't get the Hellboy 2 love; the first one was fairly faithful to the source material, whilst the second seemed to me like the usual formulaic trash that results when the money-men elbow aside the creatives with a "thank you, we get the gimmick now, we'll take it from here" sort of thing. But that's

CUT THE FUCKIN' CLOTH, YO, AND STOMP ON THE FAT!
POUR THE BITCHES MILK ON THE ILLIN' CRIB'S FLOOR!
LEAVE THE SUCKA'S BONES ON THE KILLIN' ROOM MAT!
SPASH THE GIN & JUICE ON EVERY MOTHAFUCKIN' DOOR!

Sorry, Lone Tom Waiting for the Apocalypse, but Hellboy 2 sucked soooo hard it calls your whole argument into question.

Plus, you don't have to *try* to be an asshole.

I read "The Moon Pool" as part of my attempt to wade through a large part of Lovecraft's biblio in _Supernatural Horror in Literature_, but it didn't particularly inspire me to find any more of his.

The addition of the heart plugs makes the whole thing worthwhile, IMHO. Even the goddamn Toto soundtrack.

I break that out and listen to it every few years, and then put it away again - i like my industrial with quite a bit less house, thank you.

Cigarettes are bad… [giggle] *We're* bad…

YES, PLEASE. The first (obFirstieDisclaimer) season, anyway. Been waiting for that forever, it seems.
