While we're cartoon nerding out, I'm really not getting the negativity towards Rugrats. It was a fun, slightly surreal and very imaginative show that managed to be entertaining to really young kids while having some pretty spectacular animation and not having to shoehorn in a "lesson" at the end of every episode.

Animaniacs was singularly devoted to weird, old-timey showbiz tropes, and you have to love that in a children's cartoon. The fact that the cracked-out alchemy of those elements with the show's intensely weird Chuck Jones-style surrealism managed to resonate with children (and make them smarter at the same time) is…
