I get that he's clearly trying to be something he's not, but his desire to be a club-hopping poon hound doesn't gel with his real personality. You just sit there depressed, going "how does this lifestyle appeal to this dude at all?"

Descriptions like "His father is emotionally distant. Trying to get some love for him, he enters a giant robot…" is why I can't QUITE see myself get very emotionally affected by this kind of anime.
