Is it really cool to bash such a well-known director, though? Most assholes I know of find it much more rewarding to piss all over someone more obscure: calling Jan Švankmajer overrated and suchlike.

EWS is a pretty suitable acronym, as it is an appropriate exclamation when faced with a pasty-old-rich-people orgy. EEEEEEWWWWWWWS

You've got a very strong point there, @paraclete_pizza:disqus. But I also think the reason it could be on this cinephile-ish list is for that exact same reason: it being so decidedly un-Lynchian could be seen as, y'know, "a master reinventing himself" and so forth.

Agreed. And oh snap, I totally forgot about The Straight Story: I think that's the only one of his '90s output that stands a decent chance of being on a list like this. (The other 3 are too divisive, not really critical darlings, and would probably split the votes too evenly between them.) Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

I'm guessing there'll be no Lynch on the list whatsoever…which is a damn (darn-tootin'?) shame. But I would actually rank Wild At Heart and (I know this is an unpopular opinion) Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me way above Lost Highway. The soundtrack, for one, has dated it horribly.

It's really fucking good, but I don't think most critics would put it on any sort of best-of list. I don't think The AV Club put it on their list of the 50 best of the '00s…

My personal favorite of theirs is The Big Lebowski (as I mentioned above), but I've always seen Fargo as their "objectively best" film.

I'm not quite sure I'd know what to do with the information if some faceless internet bozo told ME which of the AV Club's top 40 '90s films he had seen, but I am bored at work:

From my perspective of living through the 90s I must also go with the Goosebumps factor. How much my world was changed after rewinding the VHS.
