I've always admired Midler's balls-out singing style, but have often shaken my head at her choices of maudlin material (I'm looking at YOU, "From a Distance")! It says a lot about her talent, that, if anyone else had sung these songs, they would be vomitous and intolerable. Bette makes them merely annoying.

Yep, TCM is one of my two go-to channels if I just wanna veg out in front of the TV. There's almost always a good movie or an interesting feature on. And I actually look forward to Osborne's little thingies at the end.

Chasing money isn't necessarily worse, but I'm certainly glad some do chase after prestige, or I would never go to the movies at all. No - that sounds pretentious, because I love a good bad movie, but the money and prestige circles rarely converge. I'm glad there's both.
