Nice baseball analogy. I guess what I was getting at was that the half-hours could never replace the hour longs for that exact reason. If the culture of tv is cyclical, as Todd says, I am certainly not looking forward to a time period where the hour longs are boring and derivative and the half hours are mind blowing.

I do agree with your sentiment, Vandy, that the half-hour is making a resurgence and there a ton of good ones on right now (love love love love VEEP), but they really don't hold a candle to the hour-long dramas. I'm not sure that's the argument you're making (hour vs half) but it's a completely different viewing

I really like that reading of it, BK, but you could never say you were reading the book as part of a curriculum on slavery, bc that would ruin the twist! I think the book works so well bc, like you said, it's the only world these characters have ever known, so they go along with it not only bc they are told to, but bc

Just finished NEVER LET ME GO by Ishiguro and holy crap, that book devastated me. I highly recommend reading it without knowing a single thing about it, and it will floor you.

Yeah I was surprised Saving Private Ryan wasn't on here, that movie is so damn great

I just don't understand why they needed so many call back lines.
    "Why do we fall Bruce?"
"It's not what's on the inside that counts"
    "Mind your surroundings"
    "Finders Keepers"
"You still haven't given up on me Alfred?"
    "Didn't you get the memo?"
    "It's all a bit technical"

The Mummy is so so so good.

I also watched Begins last night in preparation. I liked it alot more than I remembered from the first time I saw it. The idea of overcoming your fears instead of being lazy and accepting them is pretty great, and works with Bruce as well as the city as a whole. Plus it doesnt get better than that swooping helicopter

Thanks Teller, I'm definitely going to pick that up, maybe even drop GLC. I think we can both agree Red Lanterns looks fucking awful, though.

Yeah, I couldn't decide between New Guardians and GL Corps, but I went with Corps bc I thought it might cross over with the main title. It's fairly entertaining, but ultimately forgettable. I always liked Kyle more than Guy and John (probably bc I grew up reading the Kyle GLs and loved the arc when he turned into Ion)

Is anyone reading Green Lantern? I really like what they did with Sinestro and I think the art is fantastic. It seems to get brushed aside, (maybe Geoff Johns fatigue?) but he's always been my favorite DC superhero and I like what they've done with his universe so far in the new 52.
