Not "Alex Chilton"? Damn that Google!

I had a similar reaction, but I think these guys are smart enough not to try and mess around with #1 Record or Radio City. That's like taking on the White Album. What else could you do with it? Plus, you might get more interesting people to do Third. Scott McCaughey?
Yes, I have. I'm not sure I agree with you 100%, but it's a great album. Have you heard The Accelerators? The Windbreakers? Don Dixon's solo stuff? R.E.M. had pretty big coattails for a while in the 80s-90s.
Sheeet! Chris Stamey? Mike Mills? Big Star's "Third"? Damn!
Oh, and nice job rocking the Tempest there, geek.
Damn, I totally blocked this. Complete brain wipe until I read the lyrics above. I still hate Geddy Lee's voice (nails on the chalkboard ain't in it), but this was like a time warp. I probably have not heard this song in almost 30 years.
Yessir. Oh, and I forgot: a different version of "Rock n Roll Toilet" too! Gonna go dig it out right now…
I agree; The Soft Boys Ryko CDs are great. If for no other reason than the live covers of "We Like Bananas" and "Train 'Round the Bend". Plus a different version of "Way Hep Uh Hole" from Invisible Hits and an outtake "Underwater Moonlight" that I like even better than the album version. But YMMV depending on your…
Indeed. Oh, indeed.
Also The Sweet Hereafter. Everyone is pretty much karmically screwed at the end of the movie.
(SPOLIERS) I always thought a better ending would have been if her head WASN'T in the box, but of course Pitt thought it was and killed Spacey before he looked. It would have been his last mindfuck on Brad Pitt, showing that they really weren't that different in the end. What the hell, he was going to jail for a long…
These may have already been mentioned, but:
I was surprised not to see them too. Nick Drake?
I agree; I like BPB on CD fine but he tends to be a bit uneven. Live with a band he is generally much stronger and can select the best from his massive catalog. Always interesting in either format though.
Daft Punk Is Playing At My House
Hands Open name-checks Sufjan Stevens
The Town That Lost It's Groove Supply has many too
You're just a desperate old fart; not boring though! With thanks to Pete Townsend.
As someone noted above "The Big Payback" has the whole Sugar Hill story. Big Bank Hank was (IIRC) a quasi-manager/hanger-on of the Cold Crush Brothers and basically it was the only rap he knew, so he went with it. So there's no "allegedly" about it, but it also wasn't intentional grand larceny. No one thought they…
I first saw them in 1985 at the CCCC (you have to be a Mainer to get that one right away). IIRC, The Three O'Clock opened up. It was my first "arena" concert and it was great. Best of luck to Mike, Michael, Peter, and Bill.
I actually prefer "Swampland", but every track on the original EPs is great. "Deep in the Woods" too; it definitely prefigures the Bad Seeds.
I'd like to put in a plug for the Cavedogs; one of many late-80s Boston bands that didn't make it due to not being part of a trend like Madchester, grunge, etc.
