I think their debut album (United) is pretty good. And It's Never Been Like That is even better than Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix in my opinion.

I love it too, one of the best tracks on that album. I can see why some people will be disappointed with the direction he's moved in, but I think it always going to be a case of 'damned if you do…'. If he was now doing The Creek Drank the Cradle Mk 5, some people wouldn't like that either.
Nah, I'd say Bogdanovich comes off far worse than Ashby and Altman. Biskind takes great delight in his downfall and he's portrayed as a total egomaniac. Friedkin definitely comes off the worst though.
Looking forward to this one. I actually think The Shepherd's Dog is my favourite record of his, it feels a little underrated certainly in comparison to his first two records.
On early listens, I'm enjoying this. Maybe not as good as Fever to Tell or It's Blitz so far, but still very enjoyable. Certainly baffled by some of the poor reviews - 3/10 from Popmatters?!
To be fair, nobody in that book comes out looking especially good (not least the directors).
He co-wrote LA Confidential, which is one of the best film adaptations ever. But the rest of his career is pretty patchy to say the least.
For a moment I got them confused with Scouting for Girls (the ones with the She's So Lovely song).
Drinking game when reading comments on reviews of this album - take a drink every time someone says 'emperor's new clothes'.
There's a single CD version of the album (in the UK anyway) which doesn't have Old Dreams Waiting to be Realized, which could be preferable for people who don't want the ultra-long ambient drone in the middle of proceedings.
And Ellen Wong.
Bill Callahan. I like a lot of Oldham's stuff but Wild Love, Knock Knock, Sometimes I Wish We Were an Eagle (amongst others) are just fantastic. Some minus points for an album title as terrible as Dongs of Sevotion though. And Callahan has dated Cat Power (before she went really crazy anyway) and Joanna Newsom so he's…
Thanks for my daily reminder of why I hate Family Guy.
That's what I mean, those are really bad episodes (by general consensus), I was saying I thought this was a comfortable few notches above that.
The reaction to this episode online seems to have been pretty toxic, which puzzles me to be honest. It wasn't great (I think my assessment would be 'slight but sweet') but it was nothing like as bad as, say, Fear Her, or the one on the pirate ship. Too much of the 'sonic screwdriver sorts things out' again, but that's…
Great review, though he got one thing wrong in it, Rob Reiner never did recover from North.
As if the guy in the three thousand dollar suit is going to watch all fifteen episodes in one sitting. COME ON!
I can't wait until he slates the Lars Von Trier film he's going to be in on his subsequent press tour.
Being in one or two medium-sized box office hits (plus 300) has kept Gerard Butler's career going seemingly, I guess the Transformers franchise has given LaBeef at least a few years of the same.
He'll never top his performance in the video for Rollin' anyway
