Thanks, Mr. Hyden. Just because of this I won't egg your house this year. (O'Neal, all bets are off.)

One point of contention: "one 180-degree turn from where Hughes would subsequently head with films like Uncle Buck, Home Alone and Curly Sue". Uncle Buck is a darkish, serious movie in a couple parts and it has a scene that's comparable to the one in this article: when Buck is about to take the kids to the race…
he's played lots of roles that aren't "likable old Steve Martin". Pennies From Heaven. Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid.
good movie. And Maureen O'Hara was still hot stuff. what?
couple of minor ones:
- any episode of St. Elsewhere with rapist Peter White appearing as some weird mental fragment (they would always just cut to him standing there after he was murdered and it was super creepy), the Sweet Dreams episode, and the show's final naturally.
- the Revolt in the Fifth Dimension episode of…
Your mom is an A-T-M machine.
I think you had to see it when it first aired. The contrast between Twin Peaks and all other tv was incredible. But after experiencing the influence of Lynch in movies much of TP isn't that strange.
because of Daleks I still can't walk by a garbage can at night.
Wha? What the hell was that?
@avclub-f0efb5f6cb4ce54821a9c5c6e1dff052:disqus , I've read that essay, too, but I don't buy it. Doesn't seem like Kubrick to me.

I thought Dax Sheppard was great when he was on but it was the typical deal where Scott has too many guests and the comedians overpower the regular actor.
he's a big "D" Democrat.
2. you really notice the insularity of LA comics when you hear the "so how did you get started" question asked to the same comedian 4 times in a month. At least Paul F. Thompkins and others do characters.
buy some grey, full body long johns and get wool socks to cover your hands and feet and go as a sock monkey. Get a grey knit balaclava/hat and wax lips, too. get a grey wool stocking for the tail.
yeah, I don't mean to say that The Shining isn't an incredible movie. Like most Kubrick movies, it's a marvel of connected ideas. I mean, all the stuff Kubrick does with shots that make it look like the house is staring at you, or there are things positioned in a way to look like eyes, and the way he uses the…
About 12 I think, maybe 13. I get scared by ideas more than gore because I know it's all fake and have worked in movies a little. But The Shining to me was closer to a slasher flick shot as a marvelous, philosophical A-movie. Horror movies with confusing plots don't scare me, and The Shining is cosmological in its…
a sequel? Ugh. Legacy was as long as two movies and dull enough.
If it's any indication, I don't remember the details of the history lesson beyond a slight bias towards the Socialists. And I remember it depicted the infighting within the movements in detail.
yeah, I was raised Irish Catholic, sternly. Never missed a Sunday School in 8 years. Awful childhood. Loved The Exorcist when I first saw it. It was like all the sermons about the power of the devil coming to life. And it's gloriously offensive.
