I think that, while the crater makes it pretty clear that a giant asteroid/meteor did hit the earth at the end of the Cretaceous, it did not single handedly kill off the dinosaurs. It was probably a major contributor, but an increase in volcanism, continental upheaval, and other factors all conspired to do the dinos

To be fair, though, the 9th season actually had four show runners. Two from Al Jean and Mike Reese, one holdover from David Mirkin, several from Oakley and Weinstein, and them several from Scully. You can blame Scully entirely for season 10, though.

Al Jean is great on commentaries, but for me it's David Mirkin all the way.
