Oh, I basically agree - it's an admirably character-based film, and I've actually been recommending it to a lot of the more casual moviegoers I know. My main problem boils down to the slight "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner"ness of the whole thing, but it's not enough to sink the movie or anything.

The Visitor got a little too issue-y by the end, but it was a pretty good little movie, and Jenkins sure as hell deserves that nomination.

I liked Downey, but Tropic Thunder kinda sucked. The scattered funny bits didn't make up for how shrill and obvious most of the movie was.

Yeah, it's not like I'm shocked that, say, Shotgun Stories didn't get any nominations (but hey, Michael Shannon totally did!), but this year's crop of nominees is basically the pits. I'm not even a big Dark Knight fan, but it's at least a more interesting movie - and would be a far more interesting Oscar nom - than

Probably yes.

Mass Romantic's the best one, but pretty much everything Newman touches is gold. Really looking forward to hearing this.

Half of me agrees with SouthofHeaven.

Moon
sounds crazy good. Want to see NOW.

Well it sounds a lot better than…
…that mopey claymation movie where instead of clay they use poop.

The HBO thing sounds familiar…

That movie sounds terrible, by the way. "The color of poo"? Seriously?

I couldn't believe how much I liked In Bruges. It was nice to see Ferrell get some recognition for that, since I'm pretty sure it'll get totally overlooked at the Oscars.

This sounds totally awesome.
And I'm usually 50/50 on the Decemberists.

Damn your literalism!

People who hate musicals can suck it.

I wanted (and half-expected) to like Southland Tales, but it's just too stupid and slapdash to even qualify as an interesting mess. Between that film and the "director's cut" of Donnie Darko, I get the impression that Kelly's pretty much full of shit, and thinks he's a lot smarter and more clever than he actually is.

Hells to the yes - and ditto Border Incident. What a cool fucking guy.

Format schmormat - I'm just happy to have A Matter of Life & Death available.

Okay, it's going on the Netflix queue. Thanks, Admiral!

Has anyone here seen those Rossellini films?
Are they worth watching if you're not a history buff?
