What were the best performances of 2015? Male, female, supporting, lead? Last year I tried to compile the AV Club consensus (the winner being Essie Davis of The Babadook just beating out Jake Gyllenhaal's Nightcrawler performance). So, what's the top five performances of 2015, ranked?

Usually they go by U.S. theatrical release for what qualifies for the "Best of" list. It Follows premiered at Cannes in 2014. About Elly (not on the list) was released in Iran in 2009, but didn't get a theatrical run in the U.S, until 2015.

Absolutely love Mad Max at the top. Such a brilliant and thrilling movie. The shot of Furiosa collapsing to the ground and screaming to the sky is perhaps the most beautiful and emotional shot of the year. I'm also happy for the love of Brooklyn, It Follows and Inside out. It's been a pretty great year for movies.

Late to the party here, but I just finished the season tonight. The music + the moment by the fire had me balling. It was just so powerful and emotional. I loved it.
