I enjoy Jimmy Cliff's songs but I don't know what his speaking voice sounds like, so as I read the interview it sounded in my head like Yakov Smirnoff.

To mourn properly, you must buy all the shit his wife hawks on QVC! (Or HSN, or whatever.)

I also thought an interesting twist (which would have negated like the entire rest of the movie) would have been if the two characters were actually the same person, a la Fight Club, and it was one guy's two disparate personalities feuding — he was a kind of a hippie before the war, which turned him into a nihilist

Didn't know they actually had Eddie in mind! (My comment below was a hypothetical.) That would have made it a completely different movie, and I'm sure Murphy and Murray would have probably fought over Eddie stealing the movie.

I'm overanalyzing this, but his character was the guy off the street who joined the team. He provided the prospective of the average person who doesn't understand any of the science of the ghosts, but is there to do the job, like if you or I joined the team. I was going to mention Sigourney Weaver's absence on the poster as well, and her role (even Rick Moranis') was more pivotal than Ernie's.
