That sounds right up my alley! I'm hoping for some really good analysis, fascinating insights into what he did and why he did it…got the first volume on the way! And I just got the DVD of Chimes at Midnight. Working on Welles overload. But it seems to be what I need right now—a good antidote to a lot of things I'm

Indeed…it's not the kind of thing I want to watch all that often either. Certainly a mood film. So unsettling.

This seems to be the way to go, according to these comments. Thank you, AV clubbers…am off to give them a shot!

Yes please…very good idea.

Ooooooh…Under the Skin is just utterly amazing. Very nice choice.

That's a fantastic list! Our spare time this holiday season at work has been putting together our top tens of just about everything. I jokingly admonished a few for leaving out Sergio Leone and Carpenter and putting Clockwork Orange (which I love) on lists instead of Glory. Gotta admit, I was insufferable.

I was going to ask if anyone could recommend a DVD version…I've never seen this film, and I just can't believe I've missed a lot of Welles' work. Is the Brazilian DVD worth a buy?

Hey, I'm looking to read a really good Welles bio. Would you recommend this one as the one to try out?

I totally get what you mean. My only thought is that they wanted to go light on that kind of political talk/demonstration after the prequels. Like they were totally gun shy about trying to even sort of explain factions and how they came about since there would be too much talking/exposition involved. But I do hope

Saw The Force Awakens. I said this in another thread, but I wanted to throw it in here for discussion if possible. If not, that's cool, too—just feel like putting some thoughts down about it. There be SPOILERS BELOW SO BEWARE.

It's really a fantastic movie. Just came back a little while ago. I don't understand some of the criticisms I've heard about it being too derivative of A New Hope. I mean, sure, there are few things—but it's not like A New Hope at ALL. Not even a little. The beats are different, the action is different, the ending is

Agreed. Goddamned beautiful and perfect.

I agree! And the tantalizing thing in the OT was that these little nuggets of info about Clone Wars, being seduced by the dark side—I mean, that really opens up the imagination, which is promptly slammed shut and bolted in AOTC!

I know what you mean. I thought about that, too, the Jedi thing. I suppose the kid in me loves the idea that Jedi ends and then it's happily ever after and good triumphs over evil without all the machinations. But the other side of me self likes the idea of the war just limping on since it's such a huge galaxy with

Ha ha…I remember they were laughing in my theater, too. The sand line was funny immediately. And during the fireside scene…my friend and I exchanged glances and people started tittering because she was wearing that FUCKING OUTFIT and he is BEGGING for sex. So uncomfortable and just downright insultingly stupid.

Ha, you might be right. Jake's first line immediately sinks the movie. And Hayden's too. Jesus…riding up in the elevator. It was like: This is Vader? Really? It's just mind-boggingly misguided.

This is so true. And…what exactly were the Geonosians there to see? Three chained people getting eaten while tied to posts? Thousands turned out for that? The very event itself made no fucking sense.

That's just…I mean, that's just awful. You are kind of a trooper for doing the first serious Gungan research anyone has ever done, though!

But from my point of view, facts are evil!

True! And then it still sucked! I'm sorry, I just can't help myself anymore.
