On-screen Alien Commander 1: I will crush you all into paste!
Troi: I detect hostility

I tried Bablyon 5 but the starfox-caliber graphics in the early episodes put me off a bit

One piece has an amazing japanese voice cast - I mean Luffy (the main guy in the straw hat) has a dead-perfect voice, that kind of makes the whole show.  The kids and I popped on the dubbed version and it felt complete off, because the Luffy guy didn't have the essential weirdness.

The benefit of both is strong openings that hook you in.  And if you give up early, you won't feel let down.

However, to its credit, it starts very strongly.  Unlike Buffy or Fringe, so you're hooked by the time the seas get a little rocky choppy.

I think he's a niche guy.  I had a friend who adored him, played his music all the time for us, and took me and another friend to see him.  Me and the other guy?  Fucking hated him, and his show.

Fringe made me realize I had no desire to rewatch X-Files.

The pilot is painful in spots.  I decided to re-watch seasons 1-4 in anticipation of the finale.  And I got about 1/3 of the way through the pilot.  What's strangest (as a huge fan) is just how different everyone is.  Which is I guess what a pilot is all about.

Plus, 40-year-old black and white PAL video is painful.

A lot of folks say this, and I disagree.  I admit that Fringe gained massive narrative strength when it found its raison detre (however that's spelled), which happened after season one.  However, if you jump in after the three leads are already "best buds", you still get great scifi, but I think the emotional payoff

My only problem with it is how clear it was that they were making it up as they went.  Which is fine, except the show led you to believe there was a great singularity at the core.  And it caused problems when they started realizing "hmmm - I think people who watch this are starting to demand answers - we better start

They should have titled Enterprise: "The Sexual Reawakening of a Hot Vulcan"

I got my kids started on One Piece recently (I watched the first 30 or so episodes) and it's such a fun show.  But when I looked it up and saw that it went on for hundreds upon hundreds of episode, I gulped.  It's pretty clear the likelihood of us gaining closure on this are pretty damn slim.

and zebraman.

visitor q is pretty pornoriffic (I think in the beginning the actors are actually doing it - with the requisite japanese crotch pixelation masking it.

I used to travel to Tokyo all the time.  What blew me away was the strange TV situation.  I'd flick around in the hotel, and find that nearly every station had an identical show.  A bunch of people sitting on a panel:
- one or two cute young women with very squeaky voices
- one or two young guys, often with spiky

what channel would air this?  Seriously, because I want to marry it.

Bride of Re-animator deserves a mention in some hypothetical article.  Something like "unnecessary sequels that were surprisingly good, but little seen, and hard as fuck to find"

I knew it was a stretch.  My daughter listens to the local "Kiss" station, and OMG - And my first thought was "Do people actually like this stuff?"

Can we all agree that hip-hop-ification of the charts is killing music?
