Murc sums up my feelings very well in his post.

I think that revealing details from a secret war meeting about such an atrocity would be an excellent way to make it clear to the Aang Gang that Zuko has truly cut ties with his father and given his allegiance to the Avatar.
I understand that the writers did not want

Surley the "My Father Is Going To Toast The Entire Earth Kingdom" tidbit should have been THE VERY FIRST THING Zuko told the Aang Gang back at the Western Air Temple.

I don't know how they would react to Bajoran half breeds on Cardassia especially if they are of low social standing*.  They may be better off staying on Bajor  (a people who mostly accept an alien religious figurehead) despite the racial tension.

Illuminating as ever.

After all they have been through I suspect they do not care about proof.  They want him to be am villain so when they kill him it feels like some kind of justice has been done.

I bet an acorn to an oak that Fire Flakes would go beautifully with sour cream and chive dip, just to offset the heat.

Yes.  Three cheers for our diligent Hayden!

SPOILERS FOR Band of Brothers:

I think "Southern Raiders" might be my favourite one.

Hell's bells and buckets of blood that's a great idea!

"A great example of the banality of evil"

Agreed.

Every time I hear him tell Kia "I'm afraid we aren't taking any prisoners today"  I expect him to follow it up with:
"…because its 5o'clock and I want to be home before "University Challenge" comes on."

He never sounds like he really cares about what is going on around

"That is a recipe for having a sad"

SPOILERS FOR BAMBI

Speaking of just the right amount of wrong…

Much obliged Lurky.  Much obliged.

Haaa!

Chalk it up to narrative causality.  The writers needed them in prison for the end of the series.

As Kate Monday (EDIT:and pico79) suggest below it is very possible she had no time to think it through.  No time to think of it in any other context than 'Oh no! one of my friends is going to murder the other! I need to do something.'
