I found him very attractive, but at least part of that was because of his compassionate nature.

Did he seek out counseling at a church or did he stumble upon it?  My interpretation was the latter, but maybe I missed something earlier.

I agree - this is such a realistic presentation of therapy.  It helps to have a ghost thrown into the mix, but the show is wise to not overplay the actual therapy component of it.
