I'm a little sad I gave up on it so early on.

I somehow managed to rhyme "zany" with "Danny" as I read this.

I agree that The Terror was an incredible read, even as it kind of went off the rails at the end.  I had no idea AMC was filming it.  I often wonder why some of my favorite books haven't been filmed, such as Jonathan Strange, but then I realize it's probably for the best.

That sounds really interesting!

I definitely think my preference for The Likeness was a preference and not anything inherently better in the book.  I just liked how she twisted the story so the mystery became more about the victim than the crime. Definitely looking forward to reading Faithful Place.

@avclub-195704d42ca54b9b5438856244f7ad95:disqus You are right that it is an incredibly short read, and like you my main issue with it was mashing those storylines together.  It apparently just annoyed me more :)  I have been having an issue with what seems to be a trend in both non-fiction and fiction books I have

My heart was in my throat that whole sequence.

Wow, thanks!  Slings and Arrows is just terrific, even for a non-theatre person like myself.

Anna just kills me.  I am not done with Season 3, so I am still holding out some hope that she is going to come out on top.

Maybe we could make a Godel Escher Bach pact.

For me, JDATE was a great book to read while half-jet lagged on long-haul flights.  Otherwise, yes, I think I would have been hugely disappointed in it as a whole, despite have fun sections.

I finished Tana French's The Likeness, which I think was as good if not better than In The Woods.  Definitely a unique mystery in which there are really layers of mystery.  Really interesting.

White Teeth and On Beauty are both really great, if you haven't read those.

I can never get enough Agatha Christie. I wish Kindle Books could bundle all of the series for a reasonable price.

I love true-life adventure books (as you maybe guessed from my avatar) but one that of late stands out is A Voyage for Madmen.  Even if you never thought you would be interested in sailing, I think this is a good read for the psychological struggle each race participant deals with in their solo round-the-world

Yes to both of those, but skip Thunderstruck.

I bought Nixonland based on someone's recommendation in this feature.  Maybe yours?  Now I have to find out where the heck I put it.

Also on Hulu.  If you are a guy, don't shy away from yoga and pilates.  They won't help you bulk up but they are great exercise.

Now I know what I'm watching tonight!

I admit that I would be excited to watch that.
