Can someone explain to me exactly how Mike is supposed to have infiltrated the guy's house? It's entirely possible/probable that I'm just extremely thick or wasn't watching closely enough or both, but it seems like he's coming up to the door and then he isn't there anymore and then he just sort of teleports inside? …

It's just an operating system. I don't think anyone has very strong opinions about those.
So the show made a whole huge thing about how bad it would be if anyone had metal on their person when the magnet was turned on; given that, does it seem odd that it apparently had no effect at all on the cop at work right next to the evidence room? He had the badge, plus presumably wallet/keys—maybe he was a bit…

The combat would've been okay—standard, but perfectly fine—if your characters weren't constantly deciding OMG A BUG LANDED ON THE WING OF OUR SHIP! TO THE DECK, EVERYONE! That problem solved itself when you got the ability to fly above the clouds, but until then—pure tedium.

I just can't agree with that. I like Skies of Arcadia fine, but it doesn't construct a fully-integrated world the way PDS does, the story is ultimately much less interesting, and the combat, good lord, the combat, argh.

I don't know; Panzer Dragoon Saga is certainly at least ONE of the best JRPGs I've ever played. Given how subjective all this is, I would have no objections to it being judged the "best."

Yeah, I wrote that, and then in retrospect I realized, huh—that was not only pointless, it came from a kind of dickish impulse on my part of the sort that I generally try to avoid. So, I apologize.
You are mistaken.
I saw a few episodes of the Branagh version. It was…more or less adequate.
