Yes, true. "Tics" isn't really the word - obsessions? It just didn't gel for me.

I like Gotham Academy, DC Bombshells, and Prez, and I'm … sort of enjoying Dr. Fate and Black Canary?

To not care for Sleeper? I guess it just felt like a greatest hits of Brubaker tics - The noir anti-hero, the secret global conspiracy, the femme fatale … I think I lost interest when Tao turned out to be an android or whatever. I like most of Brubaker's stuff, but that one just didn't do it for me.

- Superman: American Alien. I liked it. Possibly it's been done before? (I've never been a big Superman fan.) But I enjoyed the depiction of Clark as a boy learning to control his powers which he doesn't understand.

I didn't really care for Sleeper but I can dig crazy spy thrillers and I love Chiang and Pulido, so I might check it out.

His best novels combine a kind of surface dumbness (deliberately flat prose, simple sentence structures, repetition) with a serious attempt to come to grips with a meaningless universe.

a limited series

Awhile ago, I re-read some Vonnegut and felt that Cat's Cradle and Slaughterhouse-Five still held up, Sirens of Titan less so.

Surrender Dorothy!

Bill Lee shot up first.

re DC, I'm enjoying DC Bombshells, Prez, and Gotham Academy. I also liked the 1st issue of Superman: American Alien.

Slate has comments in frames, but you can pay them money to have no frames. Kind of a web 2.0 version of a protection racket.

Strangers on a Train is worth reading.

"You're not a real ____ fan" is shitty in just about any context.

Today my Facebook feed was filled with French flags, and people complaining that the French flags were not Beirut flags or Turkey flags, and other people complaining about the complaints.

That's funny! I was reading "New Teen Titans" with my 4-year-old yesterday. She's a fan of Teen Titans Go! and she thought it was very funny to see them without huge bobble heads.

Prayers to everyone in France … Thanks to AVClub for being the only place on the Internet where I'm not afraid to read the comment section.

Fuck Newt Gingrich and his "Rambo" wet dreams.

Yeah, really.
