I'm a bit older than the standard grad student since I got another Bachelors degree after three years teaching, but I'm still hopeful that maybe this time, I can meet up with the future Mrs. Wingnut.

I'm sorry about your cat. I don't even want to think what I'd feel if mine got out. He's scrappy, and I'd hope he'd just stay in the vicinity so I could find him easily, but ugh.
Well, I may have either made the greatest decision of my life or the worst. I'm going to grad school. In San Francisco. After living in the Midwest all my life, I decided to spread my wings out a bit, although I'm typically a shy person, so who knows what is about to happen.
And to think, Ron Moore had to fight tooth and nail to keep that scene in.
I don't understand what the new series obsession with that is. I mean, yeah, space is dangerous, and before force fields were invented a hull breach meant that could happen, but do we need to see it every time?
I don't think Avery Brooks get's as much recognition for being a great captain in the Star Trek universe. Hell, he didn't even *start* as a Captain, but was later promoted. Sisko was just an all around great character, and Brooks both chewed the scenery with him and gave some excellent performances.
Speaking of Ferengi and what you mentioned earlier about critique of imperialism, Quark and Garak's take on the Federation and humanity using root beer as an analogy:

Yep, I didn't read downthread (as usual, because I am dumb), but I posted the exact same thing.
That is an interesting perspective, one Deep Space Nine hinted at with Michael Eddington and his condemnation of the UFP: "You know, in some ways, you're even worse than the Borg. At least they tell you about their plans for assimilation. You're more insidious. You assimilate people and they don't even know it."
Thanks. Towards the endgame on one of the Let's Play videos a lot of bugs started to pop up, so I'll just wait until it goes on sale or something.
Also, anyone else here excited for Battlefield 1? My friends and I play BF4 almost every night, and I'm excited as all hell to get back to a more historic game. I hope they eventually return to WWII and Vietnam, or even tackle the Korean War as well.
Has anyone here picked up Stellaris yet? I've been watching a Let's Play on YouTube and it seems up my alley, being a lover of Civilization games, but I'd like some reviews from any of you fine folk.
I love the follow up, after Jack gets hung up on: "Hello? Hello? Mr. Hammerhands?"
I kind of hope they do it like they did on Seinfeld, just never mention it again. They tried, they had a legitimate reason to break up, and I think they should just move on from that. I don't think Nick should end up with Reagan, but I think he and Jess should be with others.
Also, if you are ever having a bad day where you just feel like a dum-dum, remember, actual humans actually believe the Earth is flat. In 2016.
Okay, here's what we got. The Rand Corporation, in conjunction with the saucer people, under the supervision of the reverse vampires, are forcing our parents to go to bed early in a fiendish plot to eliminate the meal of dinner! We're through the looking glass here, people.
Being a recently-graduated 32 year old with another Bachelors degree, waiting to either get into grad school or get a job is/has played havoc with any semblance of a love life for me. The one person I'd love to date lives across the country, and I'm terrible at dating websites/apps. So… I guess you could say it stinks.
I can imagine the horrible awkwardness punctuated occasionally by Simpsons quotes.
I can get past the water level. After that, though, I die quite easily.
Yeah, but they did send Aunty Em into the River of Souls. That's sort of dark.
