i dont really see whats "detestable" about it. it's fun and has great style, the cast is rock solid and features the most subdued of mcconaughey's 4 performances from the last year. the fact that its 'shocking' is totally countered by the film's genuine interest and statements on race and

This Is Not A Film is one of the few things that I think is better than Cosmopolis this year, so it's a bummer you didn't get a shot at both.

it is! but even in the first section of the comments i was reading through, there was no cosmopolis talk. i'm not _too_ surprised, because it is a film that actively holds the viewer at arm's length, but i think it's a remarkably sharp film from a top notch auteur. (Also, I'm not going anywhere.)

between this and amen, sorkin has shown that this show still has potential in it. really going to have to do something about how he handles maggie and mac for me to be fully on board though. and sloan is slipping into that category with her "is my ass really big?" bullshit

I think the "magical text message" you allude to, Myles, is emblematic of a lot of the problems I have with the show. It seems to gladly undermine itself by having deus ex machina at the most convenient moments. Charlie's reveal that he got many soldiers hurt or killed because of premature reporting is a minor example
