I'm in. (although I am one of those weird people that hates the 1-2-4-8-16-32 scoring format, as it always diminishes my brilliance up to the Sweet 16)
As much as Parenthood is grounded in reality, Girls is far more grounded in it.
I both enjoyed this episode (and saw its purpose) and hated it vehemently. Although the quality is still there, Girls is getting far to cynical for me to care anymore. It's really not that funny, either.
The most important thing is that the league continues to find owners like Paul Allen who are wealthy and committed to bringing soccer to markets that are passionate about soccer.
Just signed, yep.
And it's not just crushing cable — with it's ~3.5ish demos, it's pretty much crushing network television.
Seconded, thirded, infinit-ed. I know what Duck Dynasty is (I think), and I would never care for it.
It's a shame. I keep preaching how amazing The Americans, Southland, and Justified are, but to no avail. And these are the kind of people who watch Person of Interest, so it's not like they don't understand what good TV is/can be.
So around the water cooler at work today, TV started to come up. And given everyone knows me as the guy who watches an inordinate amount of TV, they start talking about their favorite shows and ask me about my thoughts. So P&R comes up, and I'm glad to talk about that. And then TBBT, and (I smirk, but) I'm like, we…
Seriously, the two best fanbases in MLS.
The awesomeness of this show has no boundaries. And when the fuck did Surburgatory become a "girly" show? (Although to be fair, I guess I should have known given I get teased by my idiot savant friends during happy hour when we talk about TV and I proclaim the greatness of Cougar Town and Gilmore Girls, alongside…
I always had the feeling that if he cared enough about the latter side, he could be the best at that too. But with little motivation — and Mallory's presence —, he simply doesn't care.
And then upgrade his apartment.
But Cyril is just, ugh, Cyril. I have a feeling of schadenfreude everytime he screws up.
This episode was just awesome. Sava mentioning the restrictive format of the show is a really important point, since viewing the show and what it does through that lens makes the show look a lot better. As a torchbearer for comedy this decade, it's not bad.
To be fair, not long ago the characters determined themselves that Lana wasn't really much besides Archer's babysitter. So while she's capable, who says she could run ISIS?
I don't think the show is ever going to be essential viewing for me each week, but it's at least becoming more assured. It's approaching the fast-regressing Suburgatory in terms of Wednesday watching.
@Tron72: I like the contrast you bring up, but I think that comparison isn't the best only because of the duration of the relationships (since Luke was the on-again-on-again guy like Mark, despite having a personality more like Hank's).
@SaraR: Exactly. Hate Chris and Season 7 all you want, but you have to simultaneously blame ASP for selfishly tanking Season 6 and that atrocious ending.
