The folks who have both the GG and Bunheads reference point see it as the other way around. That was probably ASP's formula/structure, to eventually develop that paternal relationship to open up storytelling and char dev opportunities.

Sutton Foster's physical comedy skills — well, the incessant and exaggerated hunching — are quite good.

Agreed. Talia being Michelle's foil really differentiates Michelle and Lorelai.

They could have done a better job being that foil for Lorelai's romantic troubles, but Sookie was just so bubbly that her character within the kitchen became that character's focus.

Rory's definitely less know-it-all than Sasha — or at least the first 4 seasons of Rory were.

Scott Patterson was just awful to deal with on-set, I've heard, much like Chevy Chase on Community. Le sigh.

About the pilot, there was a chance Gilmore Girls wouldn't have been picked up if they hadn't included the dinner scene, which was not included in the original script (according to ASP). And that scene really encapsulated what made Gilmore Girls great — the family dynamics and how all combinations of pairings…
