This is a good thing. The books are tedious but 5 books in, I would feel compelled to read it if it came out. If the plot points are advanced in the show, which is less tedious and even sometimes good, I would not feel obliged to read the tedious book.

Clone Wars was the animated version of what I had expected the prequels to be.

I will never forget the first episode of SJ that I saw. I don't recall precisely which one it was but he was walking in silence through the fog for an extended period of time. The sound design of his sandals in the dirt, muffled by the fog, was incredible. I was amazed at how audacious this was.
