I was once tricked into seeing Meet Joe Black so that I could see the first teaser trailer for Phantom Menace. There was an onion's worth of layers of disappointment there.

One thing is certainly clear: you have a poor understanding of what is and is not bad taste.
Right… what Lohanesque young starlets should do is have naked pictures taken early in their careers and then sell THOSE to Playboy when they hit rock bottom. Then everyone wins!
While I don't agree with your contention, I will admit that Coldplay makes the five-albums-in-a-row club.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
Comment of the week. Right here.
Yeah yeah… and also Bob Dylan is a fucking hack.
I'm old people and U2 are not relevant to me. And I'm not even that old.
I still have not heard about this film. What are we talking about?
I disagree with @avclub-eb573591cef285c12701571987b08381:disqus. While @avclub-1922cc1dc1286b56a2d99b7f1aa0630c:disqus is certainly wrong he is also a douche.
All this talk about going in and pulling out and then going in again is making it hard for me to concentrate here at work.
I believe it's spelled "chemist'd".
Interesting essay, but what in here is "news"?
I watched Flatliners just two days ago. And while extremely silly, it holds up. However:
- Julia Roberts is unattractive and wears mom jeans;
- Kiefer Sutherland wore too much eyeliner;
- Kevin Bacon openly stole some Footloose moves during the movie's climax.
I can see someone being not particularly excited by Catherine Keener, but to single her out as irritating seems bizarre.
Careful @madbeatnik:disqus, if you're too nice to him maybe he won't be so angry any more and will lose his edge.
@avclub-bd6db8346527b61b67be99c93d42c986:disqus, I was totally with you right up until the word "but".
OK… let's all take a step back from this and admit that maybe, just maybe, we've misunderstood Keanu Reeves all along and he is great. He has been in many of the most enjoyable mass appeal action movies in the past twenty years and also has turned in compelling little performances in comedies (Bill and Ted), indy…
The key to understanding Nic Cage is Adaptation. After years of being a complete scenery chewing ham, he is suddenly "good" in a movie that is deliberately and overtly subversive about screen-writing conventions. Can't you all see what Kaufman is doing here with him?
Agreed. I go to the movies to get away from terrible alcoholics ruining their lives.
